Is it Time to Improve Your IG Maturity?

In 2020, as organizations scrambled to adapt to the challenges posed by the pandemic, they also likely gained more insight—or more accurate insight–into the deficiencies of their Information Governance (IG) programs.

According to the ARMA Information Governance Maturity Index Report—2021, IG maturity rankings are down in all but one area of ARMA’s seven Information Governance Implementation Model areas.

The report, which summarizes results from ARMA’s IG Maturity Index Survey, was conducted in the last quarter of 2020, and garnered 425 respondents from both large and small organizations across all industries. IPRO was a sponsor of the report.

While about 60% of respondents reported their organizations have the essentials in place or better for an overall IG program, ARMA concluded that this also could mean they may be only meeting the basic requirements or addressing issues reactively. When broken down to each of the implementation model areas, infrastructure led the maturity pack, with 77.4% of respondents reporting and established level of IG maturity in this area.

Organizations can use technology solutions to help improve their maturity in this area of the IG model, as well as several others, including capabilities and structures.
